24-hour Readathon Wrap-up

cropped-img_4763.pngHello there! This past weekend I participated in a 24-hour readathon with LiliNoriko, and Bree. It was a spontaneous decision that I made Saturday morning– post-coffee Amber is ambitious. I figured, why not? ReadathonI usually spend my weekends reading anyway and I’m on my semester break so it should be pretty easy for me to bounce back without too much trouble. I didn’t keep track of everything that I read very well so I guess I’ll take this as a learning opportunity. Here we go, I’ll try my best to try to sum up those 24ish hours.

I started my readathon at 4pm (German time). My readathon was kicked off with me finishing up Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I had already started reading this title because I wanted to read it before the film is released. The second book I read was The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl by Melissa Keil. I chose this as my second book because I wanted something sweet and light for when I started getting really tired. After I finished that, I continued reading What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton.

It’s difficult for me to name a number of pages that I read since I picked up books I had already started, but here’s an estimation: 505 pages. Wow. I’m a slow reader. I tend to read on the slower side if I’m really enjoying a book, and I really liked Ready Player OneThe Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl was good too, but it was light (just like I wanted) so it was a fairly quick read, but I still really liked it! I’m still enjoying What Happened and I don’t want to miss a single detail so I’ll blame it on that. WhatsApp Image 2017-10-09 at 16.40.41

I’m a cheater. — but that’s ok!

I knew this going in. I am a MONSTER when it comes to staying up late and losing sleep. I need at least 6 hours of sleep or risk morphing into a purple dragon right in front of your eyes! I get so cold that my entire body shakes and in this case, I found myself staring blankly at the page, not actually absorbing any of the words written.

So what did I do? — I paused my timer and slept until 8am. Whoops!

Maybe next time I’ll make it without sleeping in between, but I did technically read for a total of 24 hours, I just took a snooze half-way in. But trust me, it’s worth it to make sure dragon Amber doesn’t make an appearance!

If you liked my post, be sure to click the links of my fellow readathoners (they didn’t cheat) and read about their experience!

Let’s chat!

Have you ever tried to do something for a solid 24 hours? How do you cope with a lack of sleep? Have you read any of the titles I mentioned?

Let’s be friends!

Add me as a friend on goodreads and you can really see how slow I read. Follow me on Twitter and like my page on Facebook to show me your support!

Thanks for reading! -xo Amber

  1. Great Post! I love doing these 24 Hrs Readathon, especially if you can do them with other people and support each other 🙂 I definitely cannot function without sleep as well, so I never stay up for 24 Hours as it would not end well 😅

  2. You did a great job Amber…505 pages is definitely a great number.. and most importantly you enjoyed it… The Readathon.. Besides we’re doing this to enjoy anyway. And I definitely enjoyed it but not only because of what I read… I just got three new friends while doing the most amazing hobby I have-Reading… Definitely a great experience.. Hope you get the time next month too but I’m assuming you’d be busy with school… Anyway, i’ll post earlier so I can know what time/date suits most of us (that is if you still want to join.) 🙂 🙂 No pressure.. hehe
And I already said it but I’m gonna say it again… CHEATING is SO Allowed.. hahaha… 🙂
Also, Yeah I just remembered Ready Player One is about to be a movie… And that was actually the reason why I bought a copy of it few months ago. 🙂 🙂
Congrats again Amber and thank you for participating. 🙂

Thank you so much, Amber, for joining us! We were so glad to have you, we enjoyed your company so much!! Well, reading 505 pages with sleeping 6 hours is amazing! I’m a slow reader, too especially when I am reading physically, not listening to audiobooks. Anyways, thanks again for joining us ❤

I would love to be able to do this. I function fine without sleep…but I have two children (6 and 1.5). Someday I will though!!

    1. Being a mom would certainly complicate things! Maybe they could have a sleepover at grandma’s house when you plan one 😊

I always attempt these but always fail lol. I still think they’re fun, though! I think maybe a 24in48 is more doable for me because I become super cranky if I don’t get to sleep >
